CAMH Library: National Non-Smoking Week

By Sarah Bonato, Reference/Research Librarian, CAMH Library

It’s National Non-Smoking Week.  It’s a time to:

  • Educate Canadians about the dangers of smoking
  • Prevent people who do not smoke from beginning to smoke and becoming addicted to tobacco
  • Help people quit smoking
  • Promote the right of individuals to breathe air unpolluted by tobacco smoke
  • Denormalize the tobacco industry, tobacco industry marketing practices, tobacco products, and tobacco use
  • Assist in the attainment of a smoke-free society in Canada

Interested in finding research on smoking in PubMed at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/ ? Take note that the National Library of Medicine has updated and expanded smoking related MeSH terms.  The newly introduced 2018 MeSH terms are: Tobacco Smoking, Cigar Smoking, Cigarette Smoking,  Smokers, Smoking Non-Tobacco ProductsSmoking DevicesSmoking Prevention and Smoking Reduction

Don’t know much about MeSH? Or about the database PubMed either?  Ready and waiting is an older post on MeSH at http://www.camhblog.ca/2015/01/05/lib-mesh-terms2015/. And to learn more about PubMed visit https://www.nlm.nih.gov/pubs/factsheets/pubmed.html.
